The national estimates are an important enhancement to existing series because they include demographic and industry detail for both worker and job flows compiled from data that have been integrated at the micro-level by the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics Program at the Census Bureau. Our intention is to have the SSG cluster available *before* we take 6405 offline. When taken offline, all data from /rdcprojects.vrdc6405 will be available on vrdc6402, using the same path (i.e., if you coded it as /rdcprojects.vrdc6405, you
are fine. If you coded it as /rdcprojects, you are not…). You are yourself responsible for your home directories.

Please contact Lars as soon as possible to discuss this if you are affected.

The initial SSG cluster will have 4 nodes, with 8 cores/72GB/5TB per node. VRDC6405 will join the cluster, once reconfigured, with its current crop of 16 cores/128GB, plus an additional 5TB of scratch space (in addition to the current 1.1TB of /home and project space). We will be running a PBS-variant for scheduling (no need to run pmon). Initially, 1 node will be configured as
the NX front end node, with no statistical software (this will later be replaced by a reconfigured VRDC6402). All statistical processing will occur on the compute nodes; however, calling ’SAS’ or choosing SAS from the menu will initiate a remote SAS session through the scheduler on one of the compute nodes. Stata 11/MP8 will also be available (5 users, plus another 5 Stata/SE users).

The release R2009Q3 covers data through 2008:4. Some states have not been updated due to data quality issues; each state’s version.txt file points to the last updated quarter. Some states have not yet provided data to the Census Bureau and are thus not available; this is indicated in the state’s directory. Registered users can download the data immediately. New users wishing to access the data can request a login for the site by sending an email to virtualrdc@cornell.edu. Users of our compute nodes will find the data under /mixed/lehdpu/qwi.sas/data.

The work on NSF01 will not be done this week. There is a problem on 3PAR’s
end, apparently. It turns out that they need to upgrade the frame, and
since we are not the only ones in the frame, they need to reschedule. At
least, this is the gist of it from my conversation with Leo.
