We use a variety of software packages, many of which are open-source. The systems we manage and use are running openSUSE and SLES (9) versions of the Linux operating system. While much of the open-source software can simply be downloaded from the installation media provided by openSUSE/Novell, some of it is not in the standard package format. [More »]

We have applied the latest hotfixes on all VirtualRDC nodes.

MySQL table definitions and readin programs for the OnTheMap microdata may come in handy to users of the data we distribute. We have posted such programs for the OD files (one of four file types in the OnTheMap public use data distribution). [More »]

The QWI public use files are very large. Here at the VirtualRDC, we usually use SAS, but occasionally use MySQL. Table definitions and readin programs may come in handy to other users of our data, and we have posted them here. [More »]

We’ve updated R to the latest 2.7.0 on the x86_64 nodes. ia64 nodes remain at their current state in order to remain in sync with NSF01.

To ensure compatibility with NSF01, we have not yet updated the ia64 nodes.

As previously announced, R has been upgraded to 2.5.1 on VRDC6401. All libraries seem to load cleanly – let us know if you encounter any problems. This is the version that will also be ported to NSF01. Compiled, tested, and signed RPM packages have been made available for any interested person (running SLES9 on ia64…) at our download site: http://vrdc.ciser.cornell.edu/extras/RPMS/ia64/

In preparation for the R upgrade on NSF01, we will be upgrading R on VRDC6401 over the weekend. Please let us know if this causes problems. R will be upgraded from 2.4.0 to 2.5.1.

OpenOffice on all nodes has been upgraded to version 2.3. Consult http://www.openoffice.org for more details.

All SAS installations have been updated with the latest applicable (post SP4) hotfixes as of today.
