Possible NSF01 reboot later today

We have requested a reboot of NSF01 to attempt to resolve some I/O-related performance issues. The reboot should take place by the end of the day today, but may be delayed until Monday. There are currently no active jobs, so it should be minimally disruptive.

Update on NSF01

The system maintenance on NSF01 is not going so well. The system went down, and the two existing network connections have been upgraded (to Gigabit). However, (i) the planned 3Par maintenance has not been started, due to some apparent contractual issues (ii) the system updates for the OS were not received (iii) the additional ethernet cards were not received. Planned network interruption on NSF01

CSvD (@ Census) is planning an upgrade of the current network connection from 100Mbps to 1Gbps. This involves briefly (expected: 5min) interruption of network access to NSF01. Your SSH connections may or may not survive.

This network interruption is planned for Friday, March 27, 2009, early in the morning.

NSF01 upcoming storage migration/downtime

Concurrent with and because of the RDC network’s migration to blades, the storage attached to NSF01 will need to be migrated as well – from one (old, out-of-warranty) SAN to a new (equivalent, but in-warranty) SAN. This will
