Paper on prototype national QWI and associated data are now available for download

John Abowd and Lars Vilhuber have used the existing public-use QWI data to construct the first national estimates. The national estimates are an important enhancement to existing series because they include demographic and industry detail for both worker and job flows compiled from data that have been integrated at the micro-level by the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics Program at the Census Bureau. QWIPU R2009Q3 (data through 2008:4) available on compute nodes and for download

The most recent QWIPU data for all participating LED states are available for download. The release R2009Q3 covers data through 2008:4. Some states have not been updated due to data quality issues; each state’s version.txt file points to the last updated quarter. Some states have not yet provided data to the Census Bureau and are thus not available; this is indicated in the state’s directory. Registered users can download the data immediately. New users wishing to access the data can request a login for the site by sending an email to virtualrdc@cornell.edu. Users of our compute nodes will find the data under /mixed/lehdpu/qwi.sas/data.

Issue with QWI R2009Q2 for Idaho SOLVED

We have uploaded the corrected version of the Idaho files for R2009Q2. Users who have previously these files prior to 2009-08-27 should re-download their files. This solves the previously identified problem. All other states are unaffected and unchanged.

QWI auxiliary files updated/added

We’ve updated the QWI cheatsheet to include the (important) flags regarding data quality of the published statistics. We’ve also added some SAS programs into the experimental/ folder that map the information from the cheatsheet into SAS formats. Registered users can download the updated information immediately. New users wishing to access the QWI and associated programs and information can request a login for the site by sending an email to virtualrdc@cornell.edu.

Issue with QWI R2009Q2 for Idaho

We have identified an issue with the downloadable QWI data for Idaho from Census Bureau’s R2009Q2 release. It appears that the data series only covers statistics through 2008:2 rather than 2008:3. We have contacted the Census Bureau, who are investigating the issue. This issue does not seem to affect the Census Bureau’s QWI online interface.

UPDATE 2009-08-28: SOLVED.

QWIPU R2009Q2 available on compute nodes, download will follow shortly

The SAS data files for QWIPU release R2009Q2 have replaced the previous version of the QWIPU on the compute nodes.They can be accessed at /mixed/lehdpu/qwipu.sas/data. Archived compressed CSV versions of previous releases are available at /mixed/lehdpu/, e.g. /mixed/lehdpu/qwi.R2009Q1 is the previous release. We are converting the older (2006-2008) releases from gzip to bzip2 format in order to save more disk space – if you are using previous releases, you will now need to use the ‘bzip2′ command line tool to decompress them, instead of the ‘gunzip’.

We are making last adjustments to the QWI release for R2009Q2 (data through 2008Q3). We expect to be able to release it later this week for download by authorized users and access on the compute nodes.

Stata versions of zero-obs files available

For compute users, we have converted all SAS zero-obs files to Stata files. Currently available files under /economic and /mixed are thus accessible to Stata users as well.
